by: Debbee (Oxnard) This book has a poignant message. Henrietta's disease and death has had a huge impact on scientific research and development of treatments for many diseases, including the Salk vaccine; yet, she is virtually unknown. I learn some things and am glad I read the book, getting to know Henrietta a bit.
by: Tiffany I finished the entire book, finally!! The book’s protagonist, Jean Valjean goes through a journey of struggle, triumph, heartbreak, and self-discovery. While Jean is regaining his place in society post the French Revolution he has a life-altering experience when someone bestows grace on him. Humbled he opts to be a better person and begins a roller coaster journey to bestow an ounce of grace he was shown, on others. Even though written in the 19th century, nearly 200 years later the story is emulated today. People still struggle. People still triumph. We still fall in love hastily – with people we barely know. And, people still rise to the challenge and surprise you in the way they choose to overcome the hardships of life. I strongly recommend this book. You might be taken back and learn something about yourself. The book is frightfully long, but well worth the read! Enjoy!
